Funeral services for Dr. Louise R. Clark, 90, of Jacksonville, were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 28, 2010, at K.L. Brown Memory Chapel in Golden Springs with Dr. Billy Harris officiating. Entombment followed in Forestlawn Mausoleum. Dr. Clark passed away on Monday, August 23, 2010, at Piedmont Health Care Center.

A native of Alabama, Dr. Clark resided in Calhoun County all of her life with the exception of 8 years during her husband’s Army service. She received her B.S. Degree in Home Economics from Jacksonville State University in 1958, and went on to receive her M.A. and Ed. Dr. degrees in Education from the University of Alabama. During her teaching career, Dr. Clark was named in both the 1971 edition of Outstanding Educators of America and Personalities of the South. In 1981, she was also recognized in Who’s Who of American Women. Dr. Clark was a member of the Alabama Vocational Association and Kappa Delta Phi honor society, was advisor to Alpha Eta Epsilon home economics honorary, held an honorary life membership in Future Homemakers of America and served as the secretary of the Alabama State Nutrition Council.

She taught both at Jacksonville High School for 9 years and at JSU for 16 years, where she was the head of the Home Economics Department. Dr. Clark was an active member of Parker Memorial Baptist Church, where she served as the adult women’s Sunday School teacher from 1967-1980. Dr. Clark is preceded in death by her husband, Edward W. Clark; her parents, Henry G. and Willie H. Rhodes; a son, Robert H. Clark; her sister, Nadine Curry; and her brothers-in-law, Ralph Curry and H.P. Fulmer.

Survivors include her sons, Edward W. Clark II and his wife, Judith; and Alan B. Clark and his wife, Anna; a sister, Julia Fulmer; grandchildren, Edward W. Clark III, Patricia Carol Clark, Terrell M. Clark, Bradford Scott Clark, Sydney Clark Higgins, Charles MacKenzie Clark, Sunny Pepper Cruse, John Henry Clark, Ira Matthew Clark, Creighton Maxwell, and Patrick Maxwell; and eleven great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Dr. Clark’s grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Fellowship Sunday School Class of Parker Memorial Baptist Church.
