Baseball took a step in the wrong direction as White Plains swept a three-game Class 3A, Area 10 series with Piedmont over the weekend. Friday, at White Plains, the Wildcats won 11-1. In Saturday’s doubleheader at Piedmont, White Plains won by scores of 8-3 and 7-2.

“I was really happy with the way we played Saturday,” Piedmont coach James Blanchard said. “A lot of young guys are getting a lot of work on the mound. We pitched nothing but freshmen and sophomores Saturday.”

The Bulldogs will be looking to get back into contention for a place in the baseball postseason when they go to Glencoe Thursday for a doubleheader and host the Yellow Jackets Monday. The Thursday-Monday schedule accommodates Glencoe’s prom night Saturday.

Blanchard said he expects the April 9-10 series against Pleasant Valley, another Area 10 match-up, to become a Thursday-Monday series as well. Piedmont’s prom is set for April 10.

“We’re still in the hunt for the playoffs. We’ve just got to beat Glencoe and Pleasant Valley and we’re still in it,” Blanchard said.
