Cowboys and cowgirls have a new place to shop in Piedmont. Bayou Western and Workwear held a soft opening on March 6. The shop, located at 802 North Main Street in the shopping center next to the China Doll restaurant, sells just about every kind western wear an old wrangler would need: boots, hats, saddles, belts and everything in between.
Owners Jazz and Barry Sewell are excited to be opening in Piedmont.
“We would like to thank the great city of Piedmont for welcoming us with open arms,” said Jazz. “We look forward to growing more and more in this city.”
Barry Sewell was born and raised in Alabama, and his wife Jazz is originally from New Orleans. The Sewells had operated the store in Chalmette, La., just a few minutes from downtown New Orleans. The family now lives in Hokes Bluff.
The reason for the move from The Big Easy?
“There aren’t a lot of cowboys in New Orleans,” kidded Jazz.
The Sewells say they could not have opened the store without a lot of help from family and friends.
“We would like to thank B.J. Sewell, T.D. Mayhill, Wayne Rankin, Susan Giddeon, Tonia Mayhall, Donnie and Pam Lancaster, Stephen and Stefanie New, Josh Payne, Bere Yepez, Daniel Yepez Sr. and Mr. Lynn. Without you guys it would have taken months,” said Jazz.
They will be holding the grand opening some time in the next few weeks. Store hours are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday. They can be reached at 256-447-8827.
