A memorial service for SFC Jay Buist, 69, U.S. Army, Retired, will be Tuesday, February 16, 2010, at 2 p.m. at the K.L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center Chapel with full military honors and with Rev. Dr. Derek Staples officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 1-2 p.m. prior to the service. Mr. Buist died Saturday, February 13, 2010, at Jacksonville Medical Center.

He is survived by his wife, Karin Buist of Jacksonville; two daughters, Audrey (Barry) Glasscock of Signal Mountain, TN and Brenda (Jeff) Isom of Atlanta, GA; a son, Gary (Solveigh) Buist of Germany; four brothers, Maurice (Genevieve) Buist of Grand Rapids, MI, Roland (Pete) (Patricia) Buist of Colorado Springs, CO, Lester Buist of Morley, MI and David (Ruth) Buist of Grandville, MI; four grandchildren, Jessica Glasscock, Levi Glasscock, Kristin Buist and Bryan Buist.

Mr. Buist served his country for 20 years in the U.S. Army. He was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal, Army of Occupation Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal (6th Award), and the Meritorious Service Medal w/First Oak Leaf Cluster. He was retired from the Anniston Army Depot and served as a police officer with the Jacksonville Police Department for 2 years. He was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Buist. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, 2141 Rosecrans Ave., Suite 7000, El Segundo, CA 90245.
