Triathlon headed to Piedmont

The Terrapin Creek Friends Committee will meet Tuesday, February 9th, 2010 at 8:00 At the group’s sponsor, the new Hampton Inn in Jacksonville, Alabama, managed by Ms. Casey Sandel, on Pelham Blvd. /Highway 21.

The Committee will be discussing plans for a Triathlon event which will include

70 – 72 miles total for September 18, 2010. The event will utilize all three trails; Pinhoti, Terrapin, and Ladiga. The Terrapin Creek Friends Committee’s current plans include running eight miles, two of which will be in the steep wooded Pinhoti Trail terrain (some on Ladiga); kayaking 2 miles from Chief Ladiga Campground to Mama’s Beach (place

between two single lane Vigo bridges on Terrapin Creek, class one rapids); and cycling by road bikes on Ladiga Trail, plus several other area rural paved roads and about 5-6 miles on Highway 9, and a few hills (On County Road 70 near Vigo community) totaling around 30 miles.

The committee anticipates the event will be Sanctioned by the USA Triathlon Association and will be open to all persons age 18 and up. The Committee is forming a relationship with the Media office of the Alabama Bureau of Tourism and Travel.
