There is one illness that no shot or pill can fix: Bama fever.

With most of us still excited over Alabama’s thirteenth National Championship, now seemed the perfect time to look back on all the history Bama Football has brought us.

On the morning of Jan. 12, 2010, 27 senior adults from Parker Memorial Baptist Church in Anniston left to tour the Bear Bryant Museum in Tuscaloosa, Bryant-Denny Stadium and other points of interest there, including the famous Dreamland Bar-B-Q Restaurant, where we ate lunch.

The restaurant served only ribs, banana pudding, baked beans and potato salad. While the menu may have been limited, they are really good at what they do. I was just surprised they didn’t serve coffee.

After a good meal, we arrived at the museum. A few Auburn fans were mixed in with the party, but the Alabama fans didn’t have a clue who they were.

One of the most photographed items in the museum was the Bear Bryant crystal houndstooth hat, and of course, everybody was excited to see the Mark Ingram’s Heisman Trophy.

Of course, we all wanted to take some of the items from the glass cases, but we had to settle for the museum’s gift shop. Sales at the museum gift shop was good. An Alabama pearl necklace sold for $149. For those of you that are wondering, you can go on-line and shop at the gift store as well.

For you Bama haters out their, you might have a laugh at the bad luck that hit us on our journey. About 40 miles from Tuscaloosa, the inside right rear tire blew out on the church bus, making us run behind schedule. After visiting several tire stores, the proper size tire was found in stock and installed and we continued on our journey.

For me, the University of Alabama is more than just its football program. I have a family connection as well. Both my children, Marsha and Derrick Busby, graduated from the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa.
