Ted Farmer

Military graveside services for CSM Ted Farmer (U.S.Army ret.), age 73, of Piedmont were Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at 11 a.m. at Nances Creek Cemetery with Thompson Funeral Home and Crematory in charge. Mr. Farmer died Saturday, January 2, 2010 at his home.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Joyce Farmer; two daughters, Tammy Scott of Gadsden and Sandy Haas (David) of St. Petersburg, Fla.; three grandchildren, Kelsey Sexton, Kendal Sexton and Hayden Peiker; one sister, Sue Farmer; and one brother, Michael Farmer.

Mr. Farmer was a Calhoun County native. He retired as a Command Sergeant Major from the United States Army after 25 years of service. He earned an associates degree from Gadsden State University and retired from A.A.F.E.S. at Ft. McClellan after 18 years service. He was a member of the V.F.W. and enjoyed fishing. Mr. Farmer was preceded in death by a son, Gregory Ted Farmer, and his parents, Henry and Essie Farmer.

Vernocia Clara Lee Prestridge

Private graveside services for Vernocia Clara Lee Prestridge, 88, of Piedmont were Sunday at 2 p.m. at Piedmont Memory Gardens with the Rev. William Cain officiating and Thompson Funeral Home and Crematory in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Prestridge died Friday, January 01, 2010, at Jacksonville Medical Center.

Survivors include six children, James G. Grace (Juanita) of Jacksonville, Linda Batey (Bill) of Gadsden, Joe Grace (Kelly) of Picayune, Mississippi, Rhonda Sanford, Donna Brown and Cindy Brown, all of Piedmont, 15 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and one sister, Glenda LeCroy of Centre. Pallbearers were grandsons. Mrs. Prestridge was a native and lifelong resident of the Piedmont area. She was a member of Piney Baptist Church, enjoyed sewing and quilting and was preceded in death by her husbands, M.D. Grace and Earl Prestridge, one daughter, Nina Earlden Prestridge Spoon and a son-in-law, Jerry Sanford.

Loyd Willis Strickland

Loyd Willis Strickland, 88, Aragon, Ga., passed away Friday morning, Dec. 25, 2009.

Mr. Strickland was born on June 23, 1921, in Calhoun County (Alabama), son of the late Claud Strickland and Myrtle Smith Strickland. He was a retired maintenance repair tech for Goodyear and had been a member of The Church of God in Acworth, Ga. Mr. Strickland was preceded in death by his wife, Pansy Louise Strickland, and a grandson, Steven Bailey.

Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Roger Bullington of Aragon, Ga., Ann and Bill Livrett of Southside, Ala., and Nita Bailey, also of Aragon; two sisters, Lula Naugher of Piedmont, Ala., and Margie Ray of Olive Branch, Miss; three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services for Mr. Strickland were held Sunday, December 27 at 3 p.m. in the family lot of Polk Memory Gardens with Rev. Ed Matthews officiating.

Harvey Lavon Waldrep

Harvey Lavon Waldrep, age 66 of Elmore died Tuesday December 29, 2009, at Jackson Hospital in Montgomery.

Mr. Waldrep was born on May 9, 1943, the son of the late Herbey and Emma Frances Marbury Waldrep. Mr. Waldrep proudly served in the United States Navy. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Donnie Waldrep.

Survivors include his wife Jean Bryan Waldrep; three sons, Gary Waldrep of Chicago, Davon Waldrep of Rockford, Dale Waldrep of Collen Texas; two sisters, Dean King of Albertville and Janie Parent of Huntsville; two brothers, Tim Waldrep of Huntsville and Joey Waldrep of Albertville; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services for Mr. Waldrep were conducted on Friday January 1, 2010 at 2 p.m. from the Folsom Funeral Home's "Memory Chapel." Donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the Kidney Foundation. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.folsomfhandcemetery.com.

Bobby Lee Williams

Graveside services for Bobby Lee Williams, 74, of the Rock Run community were Monday, January 4, 2010, at 2 p.m. at Union Grove Cemetery with the Rev. Steve Tierce officiating and Thompson Funeral Home and Crematory in charge of arrangements. Mr. Williams died Saturday, January 02, 2010, at Floyd Medical Center in Rome, Georgia.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Coheley Williams of Rock Run; two children, Lee Williams (Amy) of Cedartown, Georgia and Jennifer Williams of Rock Run; five grandchildren: Justin Williams (Amanda), Hannah Johnson (Brian), Madison Micha, McKenzie Micha and Mayce Hoag; two great-grandchildren, Taylor Johnson and Grayson Williams; mother, Mattie Williams of Rock Run; two brothers, Gene Williams (Reba) of Rock Run and Carlton Williams (Jo Anne) of Ocala, Florida and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Nathan Elrod, Brad Russell, Justin Williams, Brian Johnson, Roger Bullington, Bruce Ivey and Phillip Pope.

Mr. Williams was a native and resident of Rock Run, a member of Rock Run Baptist Church, a U.S. Army veteran and a member of the Grand Lodge of Georgia F & AM. He was preceded in death by his father, Edd Williams, and a brother, Wallace Williams. Memorials may be made to a favorite charity.

Homer Hubert Williams Sr. Homer Hubert Williams, Sr., age 68, of Centre, passed away on December 22, 2009 at Cherokee Medical Center.

A native of Macon, Georgia, Mr. Williams was born on October 5, 1941 the son of the late Hubert and Ola Bailey Williams. Prior to his retirement, Mr. Williams was employed with General Motors Corporation. He was preceded in death by one brother, Jerry Williams and a daughter, Patricia Ann Williams. Mr. Williams was married on October 28, 1994 to the former Martha Anna Dollar who survives.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Anna D. Williams; son, Homer Hubert Williams, Jr.; three daughters, Barbara Ann Flournoy, Alice Hummel and Sandy Bryant, all of Georgia; three sisters, Shirley Gilley, Waynell Johnson and Kay Holtzclaw, all of Georgia; two brothers, Larry and Phillip Williams; Ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren along with a number of nieces and nephews.
