KENT

Ruth L. "Faye" Ray Kent, 78, of St. Petersburg, died Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2009, at Hospice House Woodside in St. Petersburg, Fla.

Born in Cherokee, County, AL, she moved to St. Petersburg, Fla., in 1954 from Gadsden, AL. Ruth worked for GTE for 30 years. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and The Independent Telephone Pioneer's.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years McNeil Kent, a son Keith W., and a daughter Karen Wetmore, sisters, Martha R. Hubbard, Grace Horn, and a brother Olen Ray.

A memorial service was held at on Saturday, Dec. 5, 2009 at First Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to First Presbyterian Church (Music Fund) or Suncoast Hospice.

MORGAN

Funeral services for Mrs. Velma A. Morgan, 90, formerly of Piedmont were Friday at 2 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home and Crematory with the Rev. Larry Haslam officiating. Burial followed at Highland Cemetery. Mrs. Morgan died Tuesday, December 1, 2009 at Chandler Health and Rehabilitation Center in Alabaster.

Survivors include two daughters, Leneta Morse (Richard) of Birmingham and Hilda Moon of Calera; one son, Brent Morgan (Shelia) of Riverside; six grandchildren, Michael Morse, Brian Morse (Lauren), Brandi Brothers (Corey), Grant Morgan, Shannon Sisco (Donny) and Cody Moon; and seven great grandchildren.

Mrs. Morgan was a Piedmont native and a graduate of Piedmont High School. She received her masters degree from Jacksonville State University. She taught in the Spring Garden and Piedmont School Systems and retired with 21 years service. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Piedmont where she had served as a Sunday School teacher, was a member of the United Methodist Women and many other church activities. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Grant Morgan; and by a son-in-law, Tommy Moon. Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Piedmont, 300 N. Main Street, Piedmont, AL 36272.

PARRIS

Funeral service for Linda Joan Parris, 60, of the Nances Creek community was Saturday, December 5, 2009, at 2 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home and Crematory with the Rev. Jeffery McElroy and the Rev. Gene Burns officiating. Burial followed at Nances Creek Cemetery. Mrs. Parris died Wednesday, December 2, 2009 at Gadsden Regional Medical Center.

Survivors include her husband of 39 years, Grover Clinton Parris; one son, Edward L. Parris (Melissa) of Jacksonville; two grandchildren, Chloe Parris and Ella Grace Parris; four sisters, Wanda Cromer (Jerry) of Nances Creek, Sandra Traffanstedt (Tommy) of Spring Garden, Brenda Rogers (James) of Piedmont and Betty Kurpakus (Brian) of Gadsden; one brother, Kenneth Lipscomb (Rose) of Piedmont; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Adam Johnson, Horace Parris, Floyd Parris, Chad Lloyd, Waylon Parris and Adam Kurpakus.

Mrs. Parris was a native and lifelong resident of Calhoun County and was a member of Holly Crossroads Baptist Church.
