Recently the Piedmont Housing Authority was selected as one of the state award winners at the 69th annual conference of the Alabama Association of Housing & Redevelopment Authorities (AAHRA).

The Housing Authority's A-Team program — Academic Team — was chosen by the Accounting Firm of Henderson & Hill located in Birmingham for AAHRA's Best Practice for their Honor Roll/Perfect Attendance Program.

The local housing authority was selected the best in the state over several other housing authorities that were much larger than the Piedmont Housing Authority.

According to Keith Word, executive director of the Piedmont Housing Authority, there are 157 local housing agencies in Alabama.

Accepting the award at the annual conference were Word, Walter Prater, chairman of the Housing Authority Board of Commissioners, Patty Glover, commissioner for the Piedmont Housing Authority, and Terry Kiser, commissioner for the Piedmont Housing Authority.

Word said he was very grateful that the commissioners of the local agency could be present for the award acceptance.
