Spring Garden captured a Class 1A, Area 13 baseball win at Collinsville Thursday. In the battle of Panthers, Spring Garden prevailed 13-1 behind the complete game pitching of senior Andrew Morris. Morris and sophomore Jake Scott both had four hits in five at-bats. One of Morris’ hits was a two-run home run. Friday’s game with Collinsville at Spring Garden was rained out and was rescheduled for yesterday.
In Cherokee County tournament play, Cherokee County defeated Spring Garden 14-7. The Panthers scored twice in the top of the fourth inning to tie the score at 2-2. After the Warriors tallied three times in their fourth, the Panthers responded with a five-run fifth. The big blows were two-run home runs by Morris and junior Jeffrey Hammond and a solo homer by Scott. After Spring Garden took its 7-5 lead, Cherokee County scored nine unanswered runs.
Scott ended with three hits. T.J. Brittain, Tim Maxwell and Hammond each had two hits. Both Maxwell and Hammond drove in two runs.
Spring Garden plays a doubleheader today at Piedmont. The Panthers meet the host Bulldogs at 2 p.m. In the 4 p.m. game, Spring Garden plays Ragland.
