Lorene Cross AndersonServices for Lorene Cross Anderson, 93, of Jacksonville were Wednesday, January 20, 2010, at 1 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home and Crematory in Piedmont with the Rev. Edward Lynn, Pastor T. R. Harper, Dr. William Ferguson and Dr. V.M. Reddy officiating. Burial followed at Rabbittown Baptist Church Cemetery. Mrs. Anderson died Sunday, January 17, 2010 at Noland Hospital of Anniston.
Survivors include her daughter, Lynda Lynn (Edward) of Jacksonville; two grandchildren, Ty Rochester (Marsha) of Jacksonville and Angie Brownell of Muscadine; one great-grandson Kyle Brownell; 12 nieces and nephews and many great and great great nieces and nephews and countless adopted children.
Pallbearers were Ty Rochester, Stan Pritchett, John Regan, Clarence Angelett, Jimmy Johnston and Gerald Johnston. Honorary pallbearers were Tracy Butler, Karen Reid, Rhonda Johnston, Dr. William Ferguson and Dr. Mohammad Kamran.
Mrs. Anderson was a native of the Rabbittown Community and a resident of Jacksonville most of her life. She was a member of Faith Temple Christian Center and a former employee of the Lawtex Corporation and M.S. Snower. Rev. Jason 'Pastor Billy' GougerReverend Jason "Pastor Billy" Gouger, 37, of Piedmont went home to be with the Lord on Monday, January 18, 2010. Funeral services were Thursday, January 21, 2010 at 2 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home and Crematory with the Rev. Jerry Kelley and the Rev. Gary Watts officiating. Burial followed in the Kerr Family Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Dara Ivie Gouger; his children, Ashley Reynolds of Anniston and Nina Gouger and Ethan Gouger both of Piedmont; his future son-in-law, Stephen Johnson of Talladega; his mother, Shirley Gouger of Piedmont; a sister, Dianna Maddox (David) of Piedmont; a brother, Matthew Gouger of Piedmont; grandparents, J W and Agnes Gouger of Centre; mother and father -in-law, Leonard and June Ivie of Piedmont; chosen sisters, Dona Doyal of Piedmont and Jana Kirkpatrick of Anniston; chosen grandfather, J T Kerr of Piedmont; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Pallbearers were Kenny Ballew, Kevin Ward, Jeff Peak, Gary Newell, Josh Kirkpatrick and Doug Brewster. Honorary Pallbearers were former Springs employees and employees of Federal Mogul.
Jason loved serving the Lord and witnessing about God's goodness. He was an avid Auburn football and Atlanta Braves fan. Everyone that met him loved him. He was a member of Chapman's Chapel Congregational Holiness Church. He was a licensed minister with the Congregational Holiness Churches and was active in the youth department and jail ministry. Rev. Gouger was preceded in death by his father, Billy Gouger; grandparents, Preston and Jewel Ballew; and chosen grandmother, Nina Kerr. Memorial contributions may be made to Chapman's Chapel Congregational Holiness Church in Glencoe.
Anita Lynn HicksGraveside services for Anita Lynn Hicks, 57, of Piedmont were Tuesday, January 26, 2010, at 3 p.m. at Piedmont Memory Gardens with Rev. Jimmy Ford officiating and Thompson Funeral Home and Crematory in charge of arrangements. Miss Hicks died Saturday, January 23, 2010 at Noland Hospital at RMC in Anniston.
Survivors include two brothers, Thomas Hicks (Cheryl) and Timothy S. Hicks all of Piedmont; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Miss Hicks was a native and lifelong resident of Piedmont. She was a graduate of Piedmont High School and received her degree in nursing from Ayers Technical College. She was a long time employee of Centre Hospital and Piedmont Health Care Center and was a member of Dailey Street Baptist Church. Anita was a loving person and a good sister. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Lucy Hicks.
Hugh Russell LuckeyServices for Hugh Russell Luckey, 85, of Piedmont were Saturday, January 23, 2010, at 11:30 a.m. at Thompson Funeral Home and Crematory with Rev. Mark Willingham officiating . Burial followed at Piedmont Memory Gardens. Mr. Luckey died January 19, 2010 at Gadsden Regional Medical Center.
Survivors include his wife, Winifred Luckey; one daughter, Norma Smith (Huey) of Jefferson, Texas; three sons, Gerald Luckey of Piedmont, Larry Luckey (Neva) of LaBelle, Florida and Franklin Luckey (Rhonda) of Starke, Florida; 18 grandchildren: Katrina Snowden, Robert West Sadler, Jr. (Jessica), Sondra Moore (Brandon), Jonathan Sadler (Mandy), Amron Daley, Donavan Kinney, Laurel Kinney, Tammy Moore, Mona Pitts, Alyssea Luckey, Michael Luckey, Larry Russell Luckey II, Rodney Luckey, Franklin Luckey, Daniel Luckey, Laura Garza, Matthew Luckey and Justin Luckey; many great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; one brother, Owen Luckey (Alfreda) of Fort Myers, Florida and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were grandsons. Mr. Luckey was a native of LaBelle, Florida and had been a resident of Piedmont for the past 30 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran and was a member of the National Disabled American Veterans and the National American Legion. Mr. Luckey was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Sadler.

Survivors include two daughters, Vicki Gowens (Rodney) and Jan Berry all of Piedmont. five grandchildren, Vanessa Gowens, Heith Simpson, David Berry Jr.(Allyce) all of Piedmont and Stephanie Gibson of Yantis, Texas; one grandson, Christopher Kelley; two sisters, Myrtis Atkins (Larry) of Piedmont and Rubye Harbin (Jerry) of Tuscaloosa; two brothers, Howard Lee Taylor and George Taylor (Peggy) all of Piedmont; several nieces and nephews and a special friend, Mary Varnon. Mrs. Surretrt was a native and lifelong resident of Piedmont and a former employee of Springs. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Surrett; two sons, Keith Surrett and Ricky Surrett; parents, Preacher and Bunch Taylor; two brothers, Curtis Taylor and John Taylor and one sister, Jean Carroll.
