As usual, we have been busy here at Dailey Street Baptist Church. We have many ongoing activities and events as well as special, seasonal happenings to begin the year. Here are just a few of the events that have happened lately.
The Acteen girls helped the Pastor with a special Valentine’s Day Candlelight Memorial service during evening worship on Sunday. Brother Tim Smith welcomed everyone and opened in prayer, read some scripture and lit the trinity candles. He then turned the service over to Cathy Posey, Acteen leader. She read scripture from Ecclesiastes then introduced the girls; Laura Posey, Pamela Anderson, Angela Lucas, Tiffany Murner and Ansley Stephens who each read different scriptures. The girls then went to each pew and escorted members to the memorial table to light a candle and say a few words about their loved ones. Pastor Tim was the first and remembered his beloved grandmother by telling how she had been such a blessing to him. He was followed by many others paying tribute to those who have gone on to be with the Lord. Some gave honor to those who are still with us and have been a blessing also. Michael Anderson and Kristy Smith sang specials and the evening closed with the song “I Will Find You.”
Our Youth and Drama Team have been really busy learning new songs and dramas, hosting Youth Sunday and Youth Wednesday services, a Spaghetti Supper, and delivering Valentines to members on Sunday morning. Brother Jonathan Brooks was the speaker for both Youth services. The Drama Team will perform two dramas in the upcoming Easter play which will be on March 27 and 28 this year.
The Youth are a blessing to the church and include: Leaders; Skyler and Amanda Clark and Kristy Smith; Laura and Andrew Posey; Candace Gilmore; Tyler and Angela Lucas; Aaron and Timothy Jones; Tiffany Murner; and Melinda Nicholson.
Our recent Praise Night was hosted by David Law and included performances by the Drama Team, Skyler Clark, Jonathan and Amanda Brooks, Brianna, Logan, and Kalum Smith, Candice Gilmore, Dot Ray, Ansley Stephens, Angela Lucas and the Primary Discipleship Training Class. Also singing were Bobby and Arlene Minter. This was Bobby’s debut and he as well as everyone else did a fantastic job. After services everyone stayed for a time of food and fellowship. Praise Night is held during evening services each fifth Sunday.
The Children’s department participates in Children’s Ministry Day each year and has chosen to work with the Buildings and Grounds Committee on their church-wide workdays. This Thursday they joined committee members H.S. Law, Dewey Morgan, Buster Parker, John Meeks and Skyler Clark by doing some of the little jobs around the church. While the men handled the big jobs, the children vacuumed song book holders, organized supplies, returned items to classrooms and any other job appointed to them. It was a great way to let them know what it takes to make the church look the best it possibly can and how to keep it that way. The Children’s Committee Chairman is Linda Morgan who brought treats for the crew. Also present were: Rita Jo Parker, Ann Meeks, Cathy Posey, Kristy Smith, Sharon Anderson, Arlene Minter and children: Pamela Anderson, Tyler and Angela Lucas, Ansley Stephens, Alexis Jenkins, Kalum, Logan, and Brianna Smith, Laura and Andrew Posey, Tiffany Murner, Aaron and Timothy Jones and Dalton Amos.
