Letters to the editor: Support Dr. Ulrich

04-29-2008

On Wednesday, April 9, 2008, the Anniston Star published an article concerning the reprimand of Dr. Russell Ulrich. Larry Dixon, executive director of the board, was quoted, “the board thinks he over prescribes and they are trying to get him to change his habits.” To my mind, “think” is the operative word here.

The article states that Dr. Ulrich and his attorney were denied access to the evidence they based their findings on. Think hard on that last sentence fellow Alabamians. Could you be next? Charged and convicted without ever seeing all the evidence.

The Anniston Star managed to fit all of the pertinent information in eight paragraphs.

However, the previous day, The Piedmont Journal, in an article written by the same Danni Lusk, the “facts” amounted to a full page, full blown tabloid type op-ed. (Journalism uses only facts.)

Lusk’s article was drawn out, included personal opinion of whoever, was repetitious and clearly designed as a character assassination.

One year ago this month, just shortly after the death of my husband, Warren, Dr. Ulrich saved my life by ordering further testing which finally diagnosed my illness.

There are hundreds of others like me out there, please stand up and be counted.

Because I’m many years older than Dr. Ulrich, I pray he will be my primary physician for the rest of my life.

God bless Dr. and Mrs. Ulrich and may we all be with him.

M.E. Bennie

Your Confederate ancestors

Do you have a Confederate veteran ancestor that you are ashamed of? If so, read no more as this is not for you. If you have a Confederate veteran ancestor and want to preserve his sacrifice for states right that was granted by the Constitution, then why are you not a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans (SCV)?

The SCV is the direct heir of the United Confederate Veterans and the oldest hereditary organization for male descendants of Confederate soldiers.

Organized at Richmond, Va., in 1896, the SCV continues to serve as a historical, patriotic and non-political organization dedicated to insuring that a true history of the 1861-65 period is preserved. Membership in the SCV is open to all male descendants of a Confederate veteran. The minimum age for membership is 12.

The Savage-Stewart Camp No. 522 SCV of Piedmont has its regular meetings at 6 p.m. on the third Tuesday of every month in the Odd Fellows Lodge on the bypass across from Highland Cemetery. Visitors are welcome.

Brian Cooper
Adjutant, Camp No. 522 SCV
