On Friday evening, April 4, 2008, around 6:45 p.m., I received a telephone call from the City of Piedmont Police Department advising the daughter of a friend had been involved in an accident on U.S. 278 Bypass in front of the Bingo Palace adjacent to the Fishing Hole restaurant. They asked if I knew Donna Ramsey who had need of a ride. Donna and three teenagers were en route from Marietta, Ga., to her mom’s home in Trussville.
It had been raining most of the day and when I arrived, their vehicle was in the median facing toward Georgia. A pickup truck had exited the Bingo Palace and hit them broadside on the passenger side, spinning them completely around. Fortunately no one was physically injured, but the vehicle looked to the totaled. Carroll’s Auto was already loading it when I came on the scene.
Officer Glover came over to me and asked if I had come for them, stopping traffic in order for me to come along side and off-load their belongings. Then he directed me around to safety.
Mrs. Ramsey said two cars had stopped to see if they needed assistance or were injured and called 911. Also several people came from the Fishing Hole to check on them. Officer Glover arrived very speedily, was kind, courteous and professional. The Ramseys were very impressed and appreciative as are we.
While we reside outside the city limits of Piedmont, we do most of our shopping and receive our mail at a Piedmont address. It makes us very pleased to know that officers of Mr. Glover’s caliber are on the job. He is to be commended for helping to make such a traumatic incident less so.
