The Bama’s Best Burger Car Show went on without a hitch on Saturday thanks to sunny weather and mild temperatures.

The previous date set for the event was cancelled after a potentially dangerous storm rolled through Northeast Alabama the morning of the event.

Piedmont Business Council President Nathan Pope said the rescheduling caused the event to lose some participants, but the public still seemed excited about what was still there. “We missed a bunch of cars because a couple of the clubs were in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee for another big show,” he said.

The car show, which was co-hosted by the Piedmont Throttle Kings, still hosted between 85 and 100 cars, Pope said.

A couple of yard sale people and four vendors provided downtown visitors with some shopping fare, and several food vendors provided them with a number of tasty treats.

Musical entertainment included an energetic mid-day performance by the North Georgia Blues Brothers, followed by Midnight Run of Centre.

Trudy Loy, secretary for the PBC, said the North Georgia Blues Brothers seemed to be the highlight of the day, with a number of visitors gathering around the stage to cheer and dance along with the show. “They’re really great,” she said of the musical duo.

Even though the name survived the rescheduling, the Bama’s Best Burger contest was cancelled because several of the competitors had scheduling conflicts, Loy said. “I think the event was definitely affected by the fact we had to reschedule,” she said. “But everything still turned out great.”

Pope said despite the new date, the event saw about the same amount of people it did last year.

“I think we had a great turnout considering everything that’s happened,” he said. “At least the weather turned out great.”
