Journal to sell book about Spring Garden championship

04-22-2008

The Piedmont Journal, in cooperation with Spring Garden High School, will publish a 60-page book commemorating the 36-0 season and Class 1A state championship of the Lady Panthers’ basketball team.

The book will take a look through pictures and stories at the impressive record this basketball team compiled in its march to the state title.

“We are so pleased to be a part of this publication that Spring Garden fans and supporters will want to keep the rest of their lives,” Piedmont Journal Managing Editor John Alred said.

The book is still being put together and will be published in early May.

“I have seen initial proofs of the book and believe me it is going to be first-class,” Alred said. “The company that is doing this book is well-established and has done books like this for high schools throughout the Southeast.” The company that is handling the printing is Indigo Publishing in Macon, Ga.

“When I saw the book Indigo had put together for Lowdnes High School near Valdosta, Ga., I knew we had the right company,” he said.

Alred pointed out that $5 of the purchase price would be donated to Spring Garden School.

The book must be pre-ordered for $29.95 plus tax. That brings the total to $32.35. The Piedmont Journal is handling all orders and an order form can be found on Page 11 of today’s edition.

The Journal is set up to take payments by mail or at the office, located at 203 Pelham Road South, Jacksonville. You can pay by cash, check, money order or credit card. However, cash payments should be made at the Journal office.

When the books arrive, those who purchased them will be notified by telephone. The books can then be picked up at Spring Garden School or at the Journal office.

For those who do not order the first time around, a second ordering will cost $34.95 per book plus tax.

“I do hope that every Spring Garden Panther fan will find a way to purchase this book,” Alred said. “It will be worthwhile.”
