Piedmont High School math teacher Angela Studdard was excited to see a $500 check with her name on it at a school faculty meeting on Thursday.

Studdard was awarded an educational grant from Battelle, a laboratory facility management company. Battelle is a sub-contractor to Westinghouse Anniston and manages labs at the Chemical Agent Disposal Facility in Anniston.

Since the purpose of the grant is to promote math, science and technology in the classroom, Studdard plans on purchasing 30 wipe-off boards with graphs already printed on them for her students. “Graphing is a big requirement on the Alabama High School Graduation Exam,” Studdard said. “So to have this money to be able to purchase these for my students makes teaching graphing a lot easier.”
