Celebration will honor Rev. Ward Saturday in Rock RunA retirement celebration for Rev. Lewis Ward will be held from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, July 26, at Pleasant Arbor Baptist Church in the Rock Run community.
The event will celebrate Rev. Ward’s retirement from Pleasant Arbor and also his retirement from Anniston Army Depot. He has pastored churches for the past 20 ½ years and worked at AAD for 37 years.
Sixth-graders’ camp
A sixth grade survival camp will be held from 9-11 a.m. Tuesday, July 29, at Piedmont Middle School. Students will tour the campus. They are asked to bring supplies for storage; lockers will be issued. A snack will be provided.
Downey reunion
The Downey reunion will be Aug. 10 at the Community Center in Jacksonville. Everyone is asked to bring a covered dish
Trade day, farmers market
Trade day, a farmers market and antique car show will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, at the Nances Creek Community Center. There is no set up fee for sellers. Don Collins of Mt. Pilot, N.C. will speak at 7 p.m. through Wednesday, July 23, at Trinity Missionary Baptist Church, 542 Vigo Road.
Golf classic
The 2nd annual White Plains Over the Hill Gang Golf Classic will be Friday, Aug. 1, at Cane Creek Golf Course. Sign in is at noon, lunch is at 1 p.m. and the shotgun start is at 2 p .m. The three-man scramble is 18 holes.
The cost is $50 per person ($150 per team) on or before July 25; $60 per person ($180 per team) after July 25 and $20 per person (two Mulligans). The cost includes green fee, cart fee, practice balls at range, lunch, 19th Hole (hamburgers), longest drive contest, closest to in contest and door prizes. Make checks payable to White Plains Over the Hill Gang.
1st place wins a $300 gift certificate; 2nd place (two flights), $225 gift certificate and 3rd place, $150 gift certificate.
