Dailey Street Baptist Church has been busy with many activities and special programs this summer including the following:The RA boys and leaders went on a camping trip to Cheaha State Park where they spent three days and two nights hiking, playing, chasing rabbits, cooking out and learning about God.
Pastor Tim Smith and leader Skyler Clark led the group in devotionals and activities.
Brotherhood president Michael Anderson and Randall Christopher visited with them on the first night and joined them in a hike to Bald Rock.
The boys participating were Greg Welsh, Andrew Posey, Kalum and Logan Smith. Many more activities are planned for the future. The RAs meet at 6 p.m. each Wednesday at the church.
Our Vacation Bible School was a huge success. This year’s theme was Power Lab Discovering Jesus’ Miraculous Power. We had fun with all the nightly experiments including “walking on water” and the ever-popular “Mentos and Diet Soda” experiment.
Cherokee Baptist Associational missionary Wendell Dutton, his wife Marcille and daughter Andrea joined us on Thursday night. Brother Dutton and family visited the different stations with Pastor Tim and director Cathy Posey. They enjoyed witnessing the Mentos explosion and they were featured in the nightly slide show.
Our mission this year was “Operation Kid to Kid” supporting the purchase of soccer balls for needy children in Africa. We raised enough to buy and ship 20 soccer balls. On Friday, the children signed the balls and included a short message. They also had a special section in their learning guides to fill out and send with the balls. Pastor Tim gathered with the children and prayed over the soccer balls before closing the program. Children and adults alike enjoyed this fun-filled adventure. Commencement was held on Sunday evening. We had an enrollment of 160 and, best of all, had 17 children give their hearts to Jesus.
Our Bibles for the Troops in Iraq Drive was also a huge success. We had a great outpouring of support and had over 400 Bibles and 3000 golf balls donated by the church and community members.
The children and teachers of the church added messages in the Bibles showing our support and God’s love. The church and H.S. Law would like to thank all the individuals and businesses that supported this mission and asks that everyone will please keep our military in their prayers.
The youth of the church were in charge of Youth Sunday services on June 29. They performed for the music service as a group and the special song was by Greg Welsh and youth leader Kristy Smith. This was Greg’s first time to sing in front of an audience and he and the whole group did a fine job.
Skyler Clark, a young preacher in the church, gave the message. After services they went out for lunch. We are blessed to have fine youth leaders. Many other activities are planned for the summer.
State missionary, Keith Hinson and wife Willadean visited us on July 6 for evening services. Brother Hinson, now living in Montgomery, has been a missionary with the Alabama State Board of Missions for over 10 years and is an associate in Communications Services. He is also a preacher, southern gospel pianist and Christian humorist.
After a piano special, Brother Hinson spoke on the purpose of the State Board of Missions and how it works to help local churches including our own. He also complimented Marcel Emigh for the great job she is doing with our new web site (www.daileystreetbaptistchurch.com) and encouraged Carolyn Law and the WMU to continue with all the work they do with missions.
He was well received and he and his wife were asked to join us again any time in the future.
