Some late spring cleaning might be a little easier with the help of the Piedmont Lions Club fundraiser. The club’s annual mop and broom sale provides supporters with quality cleaning tools while raising money towards the club’s devotion to healthy eye care, according to Piedmont Lions Club President Stephen Bradley.
“The money goes to provide eye care and eye wear for needy kids in our area,” he said.
Bradley said the club has already provided funds for vision screenings for at least two children in the area already this year. The club operates in conjunction with local eye care specialist Dr. Duane Mohon, making certain low-income children get needed annual screenings and eye wear, Bradley said.
The club also accepts donations of used eyeglasses at Mohon’s and Dr. Benjamin Ingram’s offices.
The club recently thanked its three mop and brooms sales locations with certificates of appreciation. Mops and brooms are only sold in three local businesses: Pope’s Beauty Shop, Strickland’s Hardware and Custom Cuts Salon.
Even the businesses themselves find the fundraising items helpful, especially when it comes to hair. Pope’s Beauty Shop employee Jan Norton said the shop has been using Lions Club brooms for the entire 32 years she’s been working there. “We’ve always used Lions Club brooms for as long as I can remember,” she said.
Brooms are priced at $7 and above, and mops are $5.50. Smaller-sized brooms and mops are also available for children.
Bradley said more local businesses are wanted for the fundraising, and may volunteer to be a sales location by contacting him at 447-8254 or 452-7983.
