PHS cheerers get superior ratings at camp

07-01-2008

The 2008-09 Piedmont varsity cheerleaders recently attended cheerleader camp sponsored by the Universal Cheerleader Association at the University of Alabama. This camp, the second camp of the summer, was the largest UCA camp with over 1,200 cheerleaders attending. The Piedmont squad received all superior ratings. They also competed in the UCA camp championship on the last day and out of three categories, they placed 3rd in the home pom category (a cheer/dance that they brought from home to compete with on the first night of camp), 4th place in the extreme routine and 5th place in the cheer category.

Only 10 percent of the 1200 attendees were chosen as UCA All-Star cheerleaders. Two cheerleaders, Taylor Ford and Alyson Nelson, made UCA All-Star Cheerleader and will have the opportunity to travel to London in December to participate in the New Year’s Day parade. Piedmont also had one junior varsity cheerleader, Allyson Ivey, to make UCA All-Star Cheerleader on the junior high/junior varsity level.
