The White Plains Alumni Association held the annual class reunion banquet in the lunchroom on May 17.Scholarships of $1,000 eachwere awarded to Latasha Sturkie, Morgan White and Jessie Phillips.
Latasha’s parents are Mr. and Mrs. Rueben Sturkie of Choccolocco.
Morgan’s parents are Mr. and Mrs. Michael White of DeArmanville Morgan received the Daniel Davenport athletic scholarship.
Jessie is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Randy Hubbard of White Plains.
Since organizing four years ago, the association has awarded $15,500 in scholarships.
The 2008 class of White Plains High had the most graduates ever with 82 students graduating.
Four of those are from the Chosea Springs community.
Patrick Eugene Edwards is the son of Gene and Wanda Edwards. Twins DeAndra Kay Busby and Miranda Shae Busby are the daughters of Terry and Marlene Busby. Levi Green is the son of Donnie and Tressia Green.
Basketball coach Chris Randall spoke.
Class officers are David Haugen, president; DeAndra Busby, vice president; Kayla Headrick, secretary and Nikki Gaines, treasurer. Graduation was held at the football field with standing room only. Principal Davine Miller retired this year after serving at White Plains for 40 years.
Stanley Barnwell, class of ’71, gave the invocation. Brenda Morgan recognized scholarship winners.
