Hokes Bluff may have been happy to postpone the outcome of its match-up with the mighty Piedmont Bulldogs, but the fast-moving storm that sent Friday’s game into Saturday also knocked a portion of downtown into a blackout for several hours Friday evening.

Gov. Bob Riley announced this month that more than $132 million in grants, funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, are headed to companies to expand broadband Internet service in Alabama. Piedmont, however, will not see a benefit from the funds. At least not right away.
